Meet a LiveIntenter: Michael Luxenberg, Controller
When most people hear the word “Controller,” they may automatically think of Drake’s hip song “Controlla.” But to most LiveIntenters, we think of the one and only, Michael Luxenberg. Not only does he make sure our office lights are kept on and that our employees get paid, but he enjoys playing every team sport out there, making jokes, playing golf and enjoying a nice burger during his free time.
In this edition of Meet a LiveIntenter, we learn more about LiveIntent’s Controller, Michael Luxenberg, or as we all fondly know him, Lux.
What led you to LiveIntent?
I worked for 6 years in public accounting and private equity. To say my days were mundane and painfully slow would be very accurate. I needed to change things up while also remaining on the path I had built with my previous experience. LiveIntent provided that balance I was looking for, and upon getting the offer, there was no hesitation on my end to accept. Five years later, I can easily say it was the best career decision I’ve made.
What job did you have in high school and why did you do it?
I was a golf caddy during the summers. I enjoy playing and there was nothing better than being outside all day and making good cash money. Waking up at 5:30am wasn’t the greatest and the members who I’d caddy for weren’t the nicest bunch, but free golf on Mondays with my coworkers made it all worth it.
What’s the greatest bit of advice you’ve been given?
“Do what’s right, not what’s easy.”
– Dad
If you weren’t so great at Accounting/Controlling, what would you be doing?
I’d combine a few of my favorite things – sports, numbers, and kids – so I’d be teaching Middle School math and coaching sports after work. After winning a few state championships for my school, I’d be asked to coach at the professional level, but I’d turn it down because I’m too loyal to my kids.
What’s one sentence you’d like to hear from your boss?
Since you’re the greatest employee I’ve ever had the pleasure of working with, I’m going to pay your rent for the rest of your life.
What’s one word you would use to describe your team?
Efficient.
We are a heads-down, hard-working team that quietly gets tasks done in a timely and efficient manner. There are a lot of repetitive tasks in each of our roles so we become partly creatures of routine. This can lead to a slip in attentiveness, but our team has done a great job at remaining focused on tasks and adhering to regular deadlines. I’m very proud of what our team has accomplished and I look forward to our continued growth and success.
What’s your favorite part of working at LiveIntent?
Definitely the people. Everyday I come into the office, I’m surrounded by people who are all pleasant, hard-working, and approachable. Whether it’s at my desk, in the kitchen, or walking to a meeting, the interactions with the people here make every day in the office fun and enjoyable. But I couldn’t talk about LiveIntent without mentioning the after-work sports teams. Playing football, basketball, and softball with people throughout the organization has been fun and rewarding. It gave me a chance to meet people I don’t normally interact with, and I’m grateful for that opportunity.
